AI Coding Agent Status Light Know When Your Agent Needs You

Start a task in Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, then get on with something else. When the agent stops to ask for permission, the light on your desk flashes magenta. If a run fails, it pulses orange. You can also have it show blue while the agent works and green when it's done. You don't have to keep checking the terminal.

Works with the agents you already use

Each agent connects with one click in the app's AI Agents tab. The app adds a small hook to that agent's own settings and saves a backup of the file first. Disconnect removes the hook again. Scripts and build tools can report their own state over a local HTTP endpoint.

What each color means

Needs you — Magenta, flashingThe agent is waiting for a permission or an answer.
Failed — Orange, pulsingA run or tool call failed.
Working — Blue, breathingThe agent is busy on your task.
Done — Green for 10 secondsThe task has finished. Come and look.
Idle — OffNo agent is running.

By default the light only switches to an agent when it needs you or fails, so routine work doesn't cover your meeting status. To also see working and done, set What the light shows to AI Agents — always show agent status, or to All agent activity when you share the light.

When several agents are running, the light shows the one that matters most: needs you first, then failed, then working, then done. The app lists each session by agent and project folder, so you can see which one is asking.

Keep your Teams status and your agents on one light

You don't have to choose between meeting status and agent status. Give 10% to 50% of the light bar to your AI agents, and the rest keeps showing your Teams, Zoom or Slack status. Choose whether the AI section sits at the cable end or the far end.

Prefer the whole light? Choose Full light, and agent colors show on the full bar while an agent is active. Your meeting status comes back when it's done. The split light needs light firmware 1.1.0 or later, a free update from inside the app.

Private by design: everything stays on your computer

Agents talk only to the Status Notifier app on your own computer, at 127.0.0.1, and each request carries a private token. Nothing about your agents goes to our servers or anyone else's.

The app never reads or stores your prompts, code or agent replies. It keeps only three things in memory: which agent it is, its state, and the project folder name. These are cleared when the app closes.

How "needs you" is detected

Claude Code, Codex CLI, GitHub Copilot CLI and Gemini CLI tell the app directly when they're waiting for you.

Cursor, Antigravity and the Codex ChatGPT app on Windows don't send a "waiting" signal. For these, the app can guess: if the agent goes quiet partway through a task, the light switches to "needs you". The guess is a setting you can turn off ("Guess when an agent is waiting for you"). If it's wrong, click Not waiting in the app.

Set it up in three steps

  1. Connect the light over USB. Plug the light into your PC or Mac with the supplied cable. Agent colors need the USB connection.
  2. Open the AI Agents tab and click Connect. Do this for each agent you use. Codex asks you once to trust the new hook, which is its own security check. On Windows and on the direct-download Mac app, the app opens that prompt for you.
  3. Choose your layout. Choose Full light or a 10–50% AI section, then start a task. Your light now follows your agents.

Included in the free app

You can connect as many agents as you like on any plan. Plans differ only in how many agent sessions the light follows at the same time:

PlanSessions followed at once
Free3
Starter10
Professional & TeamUnlimited
Extra sessions aren't lost. They appear in the app as Waiting — plan limit, and the light picks one up as soon as another session ends.

Requirements

Status Notifier 2.0 or later on Windows 10/11 or macOS 13 (Ventura) or later (Apple Silicon and Intel). Get the app from the Microsoft Store, the Mac App Store, or as a direct download. The light connects over USB.

AI agent status light — FAQ

Which AI coding agents does it work with?

Claude Code, Codex (the ChatGPT app, CLI and VS Code extension), GitHub Copilot CLI, Cursor, Gemini CLI (beta) and Antigravity CLI. Your own scripts can report a state over a local HTTP endpoint.

Does it read my prompts or code?

No. Everything stays on your computer. The app keeps only the agent's name, its state and the project folder name, in memory. It never reads or stores your prompts, code or replies, and nothing is sent to our servers.

Can I keep my Teams status on the light at the same time?

Yes. Give 10% to 50% of the light to your AI agents, and the rest keeps showing your Teams, Zoom or Slack status. This needs light firmware 1.1.0 or later, a free update from inside the app. You can also let agents use the full light while they're active.

Does it tell me when Cursor or Antigravity needs me?

These agents don't send a "waiting" signal, so the app guesses: if the agent goes quiet partway through a task, the light shows "needs you". You can turn the guess off, or click "Not waiting" if it's wrong. Claude Code, Codex CLI, Copilot CLI and Gemini CLI report it directly.

Is AI Agents mode free?

Yes. The free app follows up to 3 agent sessions at once. Starter follows 10, and Professional and Team follow unlimited sessions. You can connect any number of agents on every plan.

What happens when I run more sessions than my plan follows?

The extra sessions show in the app as "Waiting — plan limit", and the light picks one up as soon as another session ends.

Does it work over Bluetooth?

Agent colors need the light connected over USB.

Does it work on Windows and Mac?

Yes. It runs on Windows 10/11 and macOS 13 or later, on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. You need Status Notifier 2.0 or later.
