GH TechLand is an independent technology company based in San Jose, California. We design and build smart hardware and software that make everyday work and life simpler. Our first product, Status Notifier, is a USB busy light that automatically syncs your Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Slack, and Discord status to an RGB light on your desk — so people know when you're on a call before they interrupt.

What we build

We're a small, engineering-led team that owns the whole product — the circuit board, the firmware inside it, and the Windows and Mac apps that drive it. Status Notifier isn't a rebadged generic gadget: the hardware is built around an ESP32-C3 microcontroller on a custom PCB we designed ourselves in KiCad, running custom firmware that talks to our desktop app over a simple USB connection. Because we control every layer, we can support platforms that off-the-shelf busy lights can't — including live Discord voice and presence.

Why we built Status Notifier

Status Notifier started with a problem we lived every day: back-to-back video calls in a shared space, and people walking in mid-meeting because there was no easy way to tell we were busy. The manual "do not disturb" signs never got updated, and the enterprise busy lights we found were expensive, locked to a single platform, and needed corporate IT to set up. So we built the light we wanted — one that reads your real status automatically, works across every app we actually use, and installs in minutes without an admin.

Designed and assembled in San Jose

Status Notifier is designed and assembled in San Jose, California, using quality components sourced from trusted international suppliers. Our first production run was hand-assembled and individually tested before shipping — every unit is powered on, flashed with the latest firmware, and checked against each supported platform so it works the moment it reaches your desk.

Testing and privacy

We take a deliberately minimal approach to your data. Status Notifier reads only the one signal it needs — are you busy or free — and uses it to set a color on your desk. Specifically:

• It does not read your messages or the content of your calls.
• It does not record audio or video.
• It does not sell your data to anyone.
• Sign-in uses each platform's official, secure login, and you can disconnect any platform at any time.

Every release is tested against Teams, Zoom, Slack, and Discord before it ships, and our Windows and Mac apps are distributed through the Microsoft Store and Mac App Store — reviewed, signed, and updated automatically so you're always on a trusted, current version.
